If Scott Hemingway had it his way he would never wear a coat…or long pants or even shoes, for that matter. Although born in New York, Scott is a sun worshiper at heart. The year-round perfect weather, lush tropical scenery and pristine beaches are just a few of the reasons why he calls South Florida home.
As with many of his fellow residents, Scott appreciates the environment of the region—it is what makes this such a special place to enjoy life. Where else can you be within minutes of the coast and a short drive away from perhaps the state’s most precious resource, the Everglades? But he goes a step farther than most to show his appreciation. For almost a decade, Scott has tirelessly worked to help preserve the area’s natural beauty.
Through his involvement with "Save What's Left," he has helped to remove non-native trees and plants that could damage the delicate ecosystem of the “glades.” Scott does not see this work as doing anything special. He is just one of many dedicated volunteers who love living in South Florida and want to do their part to help the area maintain its unique charm. Scott also serves as a foster home for the Doberman Rescue League, another example of his dedication to making a difference in the community.
When this dynamic businessman is not busy with his career, he is busy raising the awareness of the importance of the Everglades to the environment. Scott enjoys speaking to young children, fourth and fifth graders, and seeing their eyes light up when he talks about the glades. “It’s really a great feeling to spend time with kids and give back to the community,” Scott says with a smile.
